Dear friends!
After writing nonstop since July of last year I’ve decided to take a two-week break. Since my story’s geography is about to change I thought this is the best time to pause, recharge, and better remember what happened next. I find it strange that the events of my childhood and youth are so indelibly recorded in my memory, but what followed is somewhat blurred. I need to leaf through several photo albums to bring back the central events of the four years of our South Dakotan sojourn.
It’s inevitable that writing a memoir means a lot of talk about me. In my case I just want to leave behind a record of my failures and successes for my children and grandchildren to learn from, as well as a greater public. There’s also my walk with the Lord and how he provided the opportunities for us to plow ahead, while closing other pathways I thought were opportunities but weren’t.
Yes, I firmly believe our Lord Jesus Christ guided our steps. I’m certain of it. Even in those moments I felt Him far away, whether by clouding His presence from me to test me, or by allowing me to walk far away from Him before saying “enough” and reeling me in. He is the true protagonist of my life story.
I invite you to read contents already published in this my pre-draft memoir. Check out the archive to read previously published stories.
Or, you can check out my other Substack, in which I publish haikus, poetic attempts, and one or two sundry essays. If you like what you read there too, please subscribe!
I’ll see you again in two weeks.
